Merit Scholarships
The University of Minnesota, Crookston attracts some of the best and brightest high school graduates and transfer students around. We are proud to offer merit scholarships to those who qualify! You are encouraged to apply early for admission as scholarship funds are awarded on a first-come, first serve basis. Please note that merit scholarships are renewable with a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Update: Starting with spring 2010 admits, merit scholarships will be renewed with a UMC cumulative GPA of 3.3. Students must be U.S. Citizens, Canadian residents or permanent residents to be awarded a merit scholarship and enroll full-time to receive merit scholarship funds. Eligibility for a merit scholarship is based on cumulative high school GPA and ACT score for new high school students or cumulative college GPA for transfer students.

UMC Founders Free Tuition Program
The Founders Free Tuition Program is a special award program that benefits qualified incoming students from Minnesota who meet certain financial need requirements. The Founders Free Tuition Program guarantees free tuition and required fees for all new incoming University of Minnesota students who are Minnesota residents and who are eligible for Federal Pell grants.
Students must complete the FAFSA, be enrolled full-time (12 credits+) in a degree program, be working on your first undergraduate degree, maintain consecutive term enrollment and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
The scholarship is renewable. New transfer students are eligible for up to two consecutive years and new first-time students are eligible for up to four consecutive years.
The Founders Free Tuition Program combines federal and state grants, along with institutional funds in order to cover 100% of tuition and required fees. Students who qualify for this program will not have to pay for tuition and required fees at UMC.
Specialty Scholarships
UMC is grateful to the many donors who provide Specialty Scholarships to over 300 UMC students. These scholarships are awarded to students based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, leadership, service and legacy. Recipients are selected by various scholarship committees. Financial need is not a consideration for most specialty scholarships. Students must be fully admitted prior to February 1. An admitted student must complete an online specialty scholarship application by the February 15 deadline for consideration. The online application is available from early January and open until February 15. Scholarships are awarded each academic year and students must apply annually by the February 15 deadline. You must enroll full-time to receive the specialty scholarships. A listing of UMC specialty scholarships is available.
Outside Scholarships
You are highly encouraged to seek additional scholarships through external organizations. Outside scholarships are awarded by entities outside of UMC, including but not limited to various clubs, civic organizations, booster clubs, churches and high schools. In addition to local and regional scholarship opportunities, there are a number of online search engines and scholarship listings. As a reminder, you must report any outside scholarship awards to the financial aid office.
